As our reading course continued, for today we read a famous British literary critic who takes a shocking approach to art: "The first demand any work of any art makes upon us is surrender. Look. Listen. Receive. Get yourself out of the way." I found this statement incredibly powerful, but also incredibly hard to do - hard to let go of my own preconceptions and really listen before I judge.
