As we've done the readings this week (so far, Genesis 1-4, Hamlet, The Apology of Socrates, and Letter from Birmingham Jail), we've been asked to reflect on something that surprised us. The readings have been fantastic and writing exercises helpful, but the biggest surprises have actually been in the number of brothers and sisters I have found among the faculty.
Tonight, I gathered with five other faculty members to pray over the campus. (And I know of two more - pretty amazing for a secular school!) God is so good to provide this family for me, and it is a beautiful picture of Christ's body as American, South African, Ghanaian, and Tanzanian gather together to give praise and thanks to God.
Our second surprise of the evening was that the dining hall wasn't serving dinner. But our reading instructor kindly bought us all food, and we found ourselves back in the classroom all sitting some desks pushed together with piles of chicken and chips for the taking. We finished the night with a round of Balderdash and 6-person Hearts, laughing all the while at the dance moves of the incomparable Sani.
